No matter what is going on in life, especially now during this time – it’s important to smile! It’s been determined by multiple different studies, that smiling can indeed boost your mood. This 2010 study found that making yourself smile when you’re feeling down helps improve your mood and increases positive thoughts. So, we have 4 helpful tips for a healthier smile!

Brush and Floss Regularly

It’s recommended to brush your teeth twice a day and floss once. By doing so your teeth will be less prone to cavities and gum disease. Brushing for the second time in one day will successfully keep your pearly whites germ free. If possible, brush your teeth after your breakfast and right before bed, flossing is up to your discretion whether it is morning or night.

Eat Foods Low in Acidity

Food high in acidity can cause your tooth enamel to wear away. If enamel is damaged your teeth are more prone to sensitivity and discoloration. Some examples of acidic food would be lemons, oranges, grapefruit, coffee, pickles, tomatoes and alcohol. It’s recommended to not eat those foods by themselves, but rather as part of a meal with other foods included. When drinking coffee choose sugar free options and drink water while sipping.

Choose a Quality Toothbrush and Replace Every 3 Months

High quality electric toothbrushes are manufactured to vibrate and rotate which helps remove plaque and build-up that a manual toothbrush otherwise may not get to. The vibration allows for more micro-movements every time you move your toothbrush across your teeth. An electric toothbrush most likely also has a built-in timer which can help you remember the amount of time spent brushing.

Make sure to replace your toothbrush every 3 months! And after brushing rinse with warm/hot water to help kill any germs lingering behind.

Drink More Water Over Anything Else

Drinking plenty of water is beneficial for overall health! Water for your teeth will help wash away extra acid or germs remaining after your meals. And as we know, sugary drinks can cause more harm, so implement water whenever you can.
